Privacy Policy
LivingTree is a sobriety companion for iPhone, made by LivingTree LLC (placeholder) ("we", "us"). This policy explains, in plain words, what the app keeps, where it keeps it, and the little that ever leaves your phone.
The short version: everything you write stays on your iPhone. There is no account. We run no servers that hold your data. Two services we pay for receive a small amount of information so purchases work and we can fix crashes, and neither ever receives anything you write.
What stays on your phone
Everything you put into LivingTree is stored only on your iPhone, in the app's own storage:
- your journal entries;
- check-ins: moods, feelings, cravings and what set them off, how you looked after yourself;
- your reasons, your "why", your trusted contact and your hard times;
- cycle tracking, if you use it;
- your start dates, your trees, your roots, your Grove and your visitors;
- your settings and reminders.
We never see any of it. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.
What leaves your phone
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Your purchase, through your Apple account, as with any App Store app | To take payment and manage your subscription |
| RevenueCat | A random anonymous ID created by the app, and your purchase records (product, price, dates, store receipt) | To check whether you have subscribed, on this phone and after a restore |
| PostHog | Crash and error reports: the error and where in the app it happened, the app version and build, your device model and iOS version, and a random anonymous ID | To find and fix bugs |
Crash reports never contain anything you write. You can turn them off at any time in Settings, Privacy, "Share crash reports"; the change takes effect immediately.
We do not use advertising, we do not track you across apps or websites, and we never sell or share data with data brokers. The app has no product analytics: it does not record which screens you open or what you tap.
If you subscribe on our website (when that becomes available), the payment is handled by our payment processor (Stripe, through RevenueCat Web Billing), which receives your payment details and email address to process the payment and send your receipt.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled on your phone by iOS. Their text is written to be discreet on the lock screen. No notification content passes through us.
Backups
You can save an encrypted backup file from Settings, Backup. It is encrypted on your phone with a passphrase only you know, using Apple's built-in cryptography, and saved wherever you choose (for example iCloud Drive). We cannot open it. Your iPhone's own iCloud or computer backup also includes the app's data, under Apple's terms.
Deleting your data
- Everything: Settings, "Delete all data" erases your trees, check-ins and journal from the phone. Deleting the app does the same.
- Crash reports: these are tied only to a random ID, not to you. Write to privacy@livingtree.app and we will help with any request we can act on.
- Purchase records: RevenueCat keeps purchase records as needed for your subscription and for accounting. Contact us and we will ask them to delete what can be deleted.
Children
LivingTree is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or state privacy laws in the US), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of personal data. Because almost everything stays on your phone, you already hold and control it. For anything held by the services above, write to privacy@livingtree.app.
Legal bases (EU and UK): performance of a contract (purchases) and legitimate interests (crash reports, which you can switch off).
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above, and mention significant changes in the app.
